We are living in such weird times right now. Weird and scary. It feels a little like a Sci-Fi B Movie. One of those ‘the world is coming to an end’ kind of things.
I’m normally a pretty driven person once I get my teeth into something. But lately, it’s been tough to keep going toward a goal when the world is so topsy turvy. Questions run through my mind. Will I get sick? What about my husband? My family? My friends? When will I find out about the first death of someone I know (notice I said when, not if)? Even if we all get through it, what happens to my savings? My home value? My business?
The reality is that no one knows any of those answers. Yet life goes on.
So I’m announcing or reinforcing that yes, I am open for business. My professionally evaluated vocal booth is ready in my home. It seems selfish to talk about business at a time like this but one of my specialty areas seems particularly in need right now.
eLearning has been growing in use over the years but is seeing a big jump right now. As a former Instructional Designer, I get it. As a voice talent, I can voice it because I get it. You have to be able to teach people things in a voice that doesn’t detract from the material, and yet doesn’t put them to sleep. You have to keep it interesting and get the points across. This I can do and have done. (eLearning demo)
In all honesty, doing voice over work during this turbulence is sort of calming. It gives me something to do for someone else, something to concentrate on. Something that needs to be done well and for a purpose.
No, it doesn’t fix the crisis or address any of the big things. But maybe, just maybe, it eases a little corner of the world for someone.
And is that what it’s all about? Reaching out and helping others in whatever way we can?
Stay safe and healthy!
