Short, kind fun post today. A few years ago, I went on a crafting cruise sponsored by Michael’s. I thought I’d try my creativity on some new mediums.
My normal crafting things are counted cross-stitch, knitting and crocheting. During the at sea days of the cruise we had crafting classes in everything from jewelry making to watercolors to scrapbooking and papercrafts – all kindsa stuff. I can’t say I did that well at all of it, but it was fun to try.
The Contest
About halfway through the week, we were challenged to a contest to win a crafting machine. We were told we had to make something out of duct tape. Yes, duct tape. The only other thing we could use was cardboard for form.
They had a HUGE box of all colors and kinds of duct tape to choose from.
We had 3 or 4 days to do this. The crafting group voted for the best entry.
There were some very creative things. A duct tape bikini. A duct tape monkey. Duct tape jewelry.
My Entry
Then there was my entry. A duct tape grand piano.
Had I made one before this? Nope.
Did I have a clue how to make one when I started. Nope.
I do have a small grand piano in my house, so I did know what it looked like.
Conclusion
I won. Honestly I was shocked. The Michael’s folks said they had never had anyone do something that elaborate for a contest.
Do you see the lesson in this?
Even when doing something new, stick with something you know.
I didn’t know duct tape construction, but I knew the grand piano.
Voilà!
